Shogi, known as Japanese chess, has been a staple in Japanese culture for centuries. 

Tendo City, next to Sendai, is known as the Shogi capital as it is the leading producer of Shogi Koma (pieces). While most are used to play Shogi, many are also used to decorate people’s homes. Special artisans are meticulously hand crafting and designing each piece, which has been designated as a traditional art craft by the national government.

Master craftsman Hasegawa, with decades of experience, carefully produces and writes each Shogi Koma with a kanji of your choice (please select from the list below). Each kanji has a specific meaning in Japanese so pick one that embodies who you are!
