Our Story

The Origins of KIMONO

KIMONO was born to share the spirit of Japanese martial arts and the craftsmanship of Japan with the world.

Martial arts such as judo and jiu-jitsu, which have their roots in Japan, carry values that go beyond winning and losing.
Through daily training, practitioners learn to face themselves, respect their opponents, and continue refining both body and mind.
They are not only competitive disciplines, but also lifelong practices that can enrich a person’s life.

At KIMONO, we want more people around the world to discover the value of Japanese martial arts and make them a meaningful part of their lives.

What we pursue is not simply the creation of martial arts uniforms.
Our goal is to bring together the delicate craftsmanship passed down in Japan, the spirit cultivated through martial arts, and the functionality required by modern athletes — and express them through each gi we create.

Bringing the best of Japan to the world.
And bringing the best of the world back to Japan.

Through martial arts uniforms, KIMONO seeks to connect cultures, people, and practitioners across borders.

A Gi That Stands Beside Your Daily Training

We believe a gi should be more than just a piece of equipment.

A gi is something you wear through your everyday training.
It stands with you through hours of effort, moments of frustration, and the days when you feel yourself grow.

That is why KIMONO strives to create gis that support each practitioner’s journey and grow together with them.

A gi that helps you stand a little taller each time you wear it.
A gi that prepares your mind before stepping onto the mat.
A gi that makes the time you spend facing yourself feel more meaningful.

This is the feeling we hope to put into every KIMONO gi.

Japanese Aesthetics and Craftsmanship

KIMONO’s approach to making gis is shaped by Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship.

Design without compromise.
Details created with the movement of athletes in mind.
Functionality as martial arts gear, combined with beauty as something to be worn.

We pursue not only visual appeal, but also the kind of quality that practitioners can truly trust during training and competition.

For us, craftsmanship means creating a gi that supports the mindset of daily practice and the time each athlete spends facing themselves.

That is the standard behind KIMONO.

The Maru-Tsuru Emblem

The Maru-Tsuru emblem, one of the symbols of KIMONO, carries the philosophy of our brand.

In Japan, the crane is a symbol of longevity, peace, and dignity.
The design of two cranes facing one another represents harmony, respect, and the connection between people.

The patterns and details found on KIMONO gis each carry meaning.
They are not simply decoration, but expressions of Japanese culture and martial arts spirit, reimagined for the modern gi.

We believe that a gi should carry a story.
That belief is one of the values at the heart of KIMONO.

From Japan to the World

KIMONO is a brand for judoka, jiu-jitsu practitioners, and everyone who feels a connection to Japanese martial arts culture.

From Japan, we share the spirit of martial arts with athletes around the world.
From the world, we bring the passion and values of martial artists back to Japan.

Through our gis, we aim to connect cultures and continue standing beside everyone who keeps training, challenging themselves, and growing.

KIMONO is a gi made to stand with your daily pursuit.

Thank you.
